Heffner was recently confirmed as U.S. Marshal for the Central District of Illinois. In the announcement, Heffner states that the department has used social media, including this photo, in a variety of ways to engage with the community. In addition to building a relationship with the community, the department has been able to use social media to solve a crime in less than 20 minutes.

Heffner was the Bloomington Police Chief for nearly five years.
