Chris Byers and Michael Salaway founded Advanced Rehab & Sports Medicine in 1997 in Bloomington, IL. When the company was founded they were focused solely on providing physical therapy to the community; now the company has expanded into multiple locations and diversified services.

“Our first location was on Felton Place close to Oakland Ave. & Clinton St. and in 2005 we re-located to 135 N. Williamsburg Drive,” said Chris Byers, “We began as a physical therapy provider to area nursing homes and home health agencies,” added Chris.

“Our biggest challenge today is the healthcare system in the United States.  More people are insured, but many can’t afford the out of pocket expense needed for service” said Chris. “We might get 100 referrals a week but only 85 actually visit one of our offices” added Chris.

The company averages about 1200 therapy visits a week. “We have 90 full-time and 45 part-time employees,” said Chris. The company has grown to eight outpatient physical therapy centers throughout central Illinois offering all levels of physical rehabilitation as well as providing services to area home health agencies, skilled nursing facilities, and various other healthcare providers. The company's Galesburg office is their largest.

Each market Advanced Rehab serves has different competitors. “Bloomington- Normal is more competitive with 10 different physical therapy providers,” said Chris.

“I like developing relationships with clients, as the average number of visits per client is 10-12. So we get to know each other,” said Chris. Clients need to be referred to Advanced Rehab by their medical doctor. Illinois is one of the few states that doesn’t allow “direct access,” but legislation is being sponsored to change that.

Both Chris and Michael have always believed that when there is a will, there is a way. “Our vision from the start was to build a new kind of rehabilitation company that provided residents of small towns with peace of mind that they could access the most advanced, rehab care solutions and modern technology available,” said Chris. “At the core of our mission is a conviction that people can be helped to regain mobility, strength, and hope” added Chris.

The conditions that Advanced treats are varied and include post-operative orthopedics, back and neck pain, occupational injuries, repetitive strain injuries such as carpal tunnel paralysis, whiplash, sports & auto injuries and neurological conditions and injuries.

Chris is President of Marketing & Public Relations and Michael is President of Operations. Both are based in the Bloomington corporate office.

Advanced Rehab & Sports Medicine is open 8 am to 5 pm Monday-Friday and closed Saturdays and Sunday.  For more information visits their website, www.advrehab.com
