The Bergner’s at Eastland Mall in Bloomington is among hundreds of Bon-Ton stores likely to close after a liquidation firm won the bid for the company in a bankruptcy court-supervised auction Tuesday.

“While we are disappointed by this outcome and tried very hard to identify bidders interested in operating the business as a going concern, we are committed to working constructively with the winning bidder to ensure an orderly wind-down of operations that minimizes the impact of this development on our associates, customers, vendors and the communities we serve,” Bon-Ton President and CEO Bill Tracy said in a company statement.

Rewind: The upcoming closure marks the third anchor store to leave Eastland Mall. JCPenney and Macy’s both closed their doors at Eastland last March.

Bon-Ton operates 250 stores in 23 states under its various brands. The company filed for bankruptcy in February.

The company said it expects more details about liquidation plans and going-out-of-business sales at its stores following a hearing scheduled Wednesday to approve the bid.

Representatives of mall owner CBL Properties Inc could not be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon.
