The Central Illinois Small Animal Rescue (CISAR) in Colfax will close, although staff aren’t sure when. The shelter announced the closure in a Facebook post Thursday afternoon.

CISAR Veterinary Technician Alex Rodriguez said there’s no one in line to take over operations at the shelter when owner Pat Burr retires.

The nonprofit, no-kill shelter has been in operation in McLean County for the last 16 years, and also houses a low-cost veterinary clinic.

Rodriguez said staff will try to place the approximately 100 cats and dogs currently at the shelter in other no-kill shelters or with adopted families before the shelter closes. CISAR is located at 29738 E. 1400 N. Road, Colfax 61728, and can be reached at (309) 724-8241 or on the web.
