Local activists will join communities across the nation in the "March for Our Lives" rally Saturday, March 24, in Downtown Bloomington to protest gun violence and mass shootings.

Voices of Reason Bloomington-Normal, a progressive advocacy group, is hosting the event.

Participants will gather at 11:00 a.m. at the McLean County Museum of History and march to the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts to hear speakers and performers, according to the event Facebook page.

The national event includes a march in Washington, D.C., as well as Parkland, Florida, where a former student shot and killed 17 students and faculty at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School last month.

This story will be updated after the event.
